DIRECTIONS:

To Kyburz / Wheeler Loop Trail

Follow Highway 89 north of Truckee for about 16 miles or north of Sierraville for 8 miles. The unmarked trailhead lies at the intersection of the Henness Pass Road to Highway 89. Parking at the trailhead is limited unless the intersection has been plowed.

Additional parking is available at the plowed parking area for snowmobiles and skiers at Little Truckee Summit, which lies 1 mile to the north on Highway 89. Access connecting the two parking areas is available but is unmarked and requires some self-exploration for the best route. Much of the route is via the historic Henness Pass Road lying between Highway 89 and the Little Truckee River and is an easy travel. Although the route is unmarked, it’s easy to discern by paralleling the highway. To reach the route, you have to drop down through the trees from the Little Truckee Summit to the river bottom. Eventually you have to cross Highway 89. In short, hope there is plowed parking at the intersection with the Henness Pass Road.
