Probably the most remote section of the beloved South Yuba, but makes great hike and bike treks for 3.2 miles up the historic Maybert Road above Golden Quartz to Falls Creek. Above there the canyon becomes increasingly narrow until pinching down to the most rugged segment of the entire South Yuba River. Several miles above, it finally tops out at Lang Crossing. Access up to the mouth of Falls Creek is relatively easy along the gated OHV, mine access road. Respect private land and mining claims. Beyond here, only birds can readily continue upriver.
