This is considered the long and most arduous trail to Sierra Buttes; yet its the most rewarding - as long as you're up to it.
| Miles | Elevation Range | Options |
|---|---|---|
| 4 | 6220-8587 | The easier trail is to follow the PCT south from Packer Saddle Trailhead. |
Follow the ORV road south from the parking area along the Packer Saddle Road and just above the Packer Lake Saddle. Hike to Tammarack Lakes and then continue up the trail to the Sierra Crest. Turn left on the Pacific Crest Trail and follow this to the junction (to the right, east) of the Sierra Buttes Trail.
Equestrian Campground at PackSaddle Campground. Use the Tammarack Lakes trail to connect to the PCT.
The beginning and end is exceptional, but it's easier to come in from Packer Saddle.
