Shanks Cove Trail

DESCRIPTION:

No bikes or motorized vehicles. This is truly the backdoor into the Wilderness. It makes Talbot look congested. You’ll see no crowds, and likely no one until you approach Five Lakes Creek. Johnson Monument, a fascinating 100+ feet high monolith jutting upward, and Mount Mildred are scenic diversions not readily enjoyed via other routes. Shanks Cove and meadows are popular for hunters. Below Shanks Cove, the trail heads down toward Whiskey Cabin and links to Five Lakes Creek Trail near Big Springs.
