Sardine Overlook and Tamarack Connection Trail

DESCRIPTION:

Climbs steadily onto ridge above (north) Sardine Lakes and offers great views of basin with Sierra Buttes towering toward the heavens. Sardine Overlook Trail: encountered after 1.8 miles, this short spur to the left is terrific for views looking over Upper Sardine and into Young America Lake basin. Continuing on the main trail takes you to Tamarack Lakes, but the easier access is from Packer Lake. Young America Lake is a challenging cross-country scramble from anywhere. Stocked with Golden Trout (2000) -- a rarity in these parts. Most hikers and anglers drop down the steep, brushy slopes from the ridge crossed by this trail south of Tamarack Lakes.
