Kyburz Flat Interpretive Trail

DESCRIPTION:

This combined walking and driving tour guides you through 2,000 years of human occupancy around the High Sierra meadows at Kyburz. Native American petroglyphs, More's Station - a stage stop and hotel along the Henness Pass Road in the 1860's, and the Basque Wheeler Sheep Camp, can each be visited. Each of the sites are within 5 minutes of each other. More's Station includes a boardwalk interpretive trail featuring pictures and drawings depicting the historic hotel grounds. The petroglyphs include cupules carved into rock that were used by native Americans for ceremonies. The Basque Sheep Camp has a modern version of the stone ovens used by the sheep herders to fix their meals. The location sits above the scenic and rich water fowl habitat of the Kyburz Meadows. The entire area is full of photographic opportunities.
