DESCRIPTION:

A fun run down (or up) an old ditch line with flume hanging over Pauley Creek that spits you out on eastern edge of Downieville suburbs.

You can make this trail only a short trip to a long adventure. Ties can be made to Second and Third Divide, Pauley Creek, Big Boulder, Lavezzola, or Empire Creek Trails (the latter two via drivable back roads). The truly adventuresome can continue north, drop into the Lakes Basin with several options and even end up in Graeagle. You’ll probably be the first to do that since the Gold Rush. Most of these options work best when accessed from the Sierra Crest and working back down to Downieville. For hikers and equestrians using the PCT to access the top of most of these trails is the most enjoyable connection. My suggestion would be to hop the shuttle to Packer Saddle Trailhead and then follow the combination of choice that matches your skills. Take a fishing pole and a camera and spend several days or a week.
