Confluence Trail to Mammoth Bar

This trail is another of set of routes that fan along the Middle Fork and North Fork of the American Rivers at their Confluence. It lies within the heart of the Auburn State Recreation Area only a few minutes below downtown Auburn

...a rolling but gentle climb up Middle Fork of the American River canyon...

...more popular as part of a loop...

DESCRIPTION:

1.8 miles, moderate, elevations: 580’-1080’, 1 hour up, ½ hour down, no horses.

The trail offers a rolling but gentle climb up Middle Fork of the American River canyon from Confluence to Mammoth Bar Road above the OHV Area. This makes a really easy jaunt as it follows an old road grade. The river lies a few hundred feet below but only steep “users’ trails” drop down to it and popular swimming holes. There a several pleasant views into the canyon. A quick return lets this trail stand alone as a pleasant stroll. Plus, nice spring-time wildflowers.

But the trail is even more popular as part of a loop that tie to Culvert Trail with loop options to Lake Clementine. The trails serve as a segment of a favorite mountain biking loop. Most bikers prefer coming around in opposite direction. See Lake Clementine Trail. More suitable for “advanced” riders: narrow single track with big drop-offs plus it is busy with hikers and bikers.

No horses.
