Badenaugh/Babbit Peak Trail

DESCRIPTION:

The road access and the lower end of the trail begin within the burned area from the horrific1994 Cottonwood Fire. Young trees and brush have returned, but blackened snags are numerous. The trail climbs steeply up through the pine forest that thickens to the unburned, original, healthy forest near the peak.

The views from the Lookout are inspiring as you gaze east deep into desert country in Nevada’s Great Basin. To the west you’re looking across the aftermath of the Cottonwood Fire to the Sierra Crest.

As of 2002, the Lookout was still utilized daily through the summer. You can also drive to the top on a rough, but adequate road for sedans. The hike up the headwaters of Badenaugh Creek is pleasant; the views from the top are very worthwhile. The isolated location that requires long drives for this one short trail make this trail most likely all yours for the day -- unless you’re there in hunting season.
