Both the fishing for rainbow and hiking out offer challenges although for me the fishing and catching was more challenging than the uphill climb back to the campground.

Access via steep, non-maintained trails scrambling down from the Grouse Ridge Trail below (north) of the Grouse Ridge Campground. In 2002 there was a sign post with handwritten names marking the take-off to both Downey and Sanford Lakes. See Grouse Ridge Map.
