Ione is the largest town in Amador County, and with its lower-foothills location it has a strong agriculture base. The rural country around the community is dotted with tilled fields and pasture as well as oaks in a quiet pastoral setting.
The town offers most of the modern amenities desired by outdoor recreation enthusiasts as well as the historic hotel downtown, a B&B, and two local wineries.
Weather and location make this a good base for both fishing in one of the nearby reservoirs and hunting in the rolling foothills.

Weather and location make this a good base for both fishing in one of the nearby reservoirs and hunting in the rolling foothills. Favorite fishing lakes include Lake Amador, Lake Comanche and Pardee Reservoir. Hunting includes small game, birds, waterfoul, and deer. Both Lake Amador and Lake Comanche have duck and geese blinds available.
Several biking enthusiasts are based here and it’s a short ride up to the Gold Rush Communities of Drytown, Amador City, Sutter Creek, Jackson and Volcano and then along county roads into the Shenandoah Valley and Fairfield wine region with dozens of wineries.
