Blairsden, a short mile north of Graeagle, enjoys the same setting but wears a more contemporary face and offers a small retail center. The historic Feather River Inn built in 1915 still shares its European style chalet and rustic charm while offering resort, conference, and retreat facilities as well as a lovely, wooded golf course.
The village of Graeagle has retained much of its logging town roots but today exudes its growth into a popular vacation and retirement attraction. The charming character of the identical red frame structures that were once part of the lumber mill operations now house unique gift shops and big-town services. Today the old Mill Pond is a favorite swimming and picnicking site. The “old” general store is old, and it’s authentic.
A half-dozen well-groomed golf-courses surround the communities and new retirement homes have been built along the fairways. The pine covered hills roll gently east into sagebrush meadows then drop into the fringes of Sierra Valley.
To the southwest lies Lakes Basin and a couple of trails follow the creeks into the outskirts of Graeagle. Plumas Eureka State Park is a very short drive to the west while the Middle Fork of the Feather River Wild and Scenic River flows gently north of Blairsden.
Dining opportunities within a few minutes drive offer a variety and charm that bigger cities would envy.
Nearest Hospital emergency care and law enforcement offices are in Portola 10 miles to the east via Highway 70.
