Bassetts Station was a way station as a stage stop during the Gold Rush and is still serving that same purpose for contemporary travelers. In fact it is also know as Bassetts Station.

Today, a modern but small motel, café, and grocery store operate at the historic site. A B&B located a short minute across Highway 49 offers a stunning view of the Sierra Buttes.
Bassetts is the last stop before heading into Lakes Basin by heading north on the paved Gold Lakes Road. The drive is a must and the numerous hiking, fishing and resort opportunities in Lakes Basin are outstanding. Sierra Buttes tower above the Basin and is a hike that is one of the best in the northern Sierra Nevada. Fly fishing in the North Yuba River above Bassetts is attractive even though the fish are pan sized.
Bassetts lies at the hub of numerous groomed snowmobile routes that radiate from the way station. Plowed public parking is available across from the station. Cross-country skiing in both the Lakes Basin and Yuba Pass are superb, remote, and not crowded.

Travel north and east above Nevada City about 59 miles. From Truckee it is 42 miles via Highway 89 to the north and Highway 49 to the west over Yuba Pass. From either direction, the drive is some of the best of the Yuba-Donner Scenic Byway.
