Gold Lake is the unofficial king of the Lakes Basin lakes. Justifiably so. This rustic camping area has a setting suitable for royalty. The campground may be short on camping facilities, but after you watch the sun set over the lake and the Sierra Crest, you'll forget the lack of convenience. You can even park your boat a few dozen feet from the camping area.
No tables, chemical toilets, big trees, bigger lake, no fees. Nice combination. There is room for several trailers or RVs as well as tents.
A day-use area with picnic tables, vault toilets, and a paved boat ramp lies just beyond the camping area.
The Gold Lake Stables for horse riding is a short distance away but requires walking across the small dam. To get there by vehicle, the road to access the stables and a second picnic area is another 0.3 mile further north on the Gold Lakes Road. Rental horses and guided rides are available. This is great country for trail rides.
