GETTING THERE FROM THE NORTH VIA I-80:
Your first decision: do you want to access the Area from the north via I-80 and Auburn or from the south via Foresthill and the Foresthill Divide Road? There’s heck of a canyon lying in-between. From the north, as the Interstate climbs west toward Donner Pass several day-use and camping opportunities lie off the beaten path waiting for folks to find them. Interstate 80, east between Colfax and Soda Springs, provides rapid and easy access to the northern boundary of the North Fork American River, end to end. I-80 is readily accessed from the west from Sacramento or from Reno, Nevada on the east. From the south, see Getting There from the South).
