Granite Chief Wilderness Area - West Side:

Solitude is one of the best attractions of approaching Granite Chief Wilderness from the west via Foresthill or Georgetown. Pristine Wilderness is the other attribute.

Getting to Granite Chief Wilderness from the west is an adventure all by itself. One day outings on the trail into the Wilderness become unfortunately short if you have to take time to drive back and forth in the same day.

Although the roads are relatively good for most of the way, the long drive is the challenge that separates most recreationists. Yet, the Picayune Valley, Mount Mildred, and Five Lakes Creek below Diamond Crossing offer some of the most scenic and purest wilderness experiences available in this small Wilderness.
