Purdon Crossing:

Purdon’s is a popular access point for whitewater enthusiasts as well as swimming and picnicking parties. The historic steel and wood bridge is (c.1862) still in use.

Swimming holes are located up and downriver. As you scramble to either side of the river very far up or downriver, users adopt an attitude that swimming suits become very optional. Upriver within a mile, swimming suits become the exception instead of the norm. The South Yuba National Trail lies uphill, and by then trees restrict views of the swimmers.
