Packer Lake Road:

Driving the Gold Lake Road by itself is worth a day trip, but the destinations lying short distances off the scenic drive are worth spending days to visit. Packer Lake Road as it climbs to the Sierra Crest and beyond is the longest and the best drive into the heart of the Lakes Basin.

Camping, hiking, fishing, horseback riding, staying at one of the rustic lodges, or enjoying fine dining at one of outstanding dining rooms in several of the lodges, is worth the drive from anywhere.

Sardine Lakes and Packer Lake are only minutes away by vehicle and Packer Saddle Trailhead at the top of the Crest is the doorway to several great trails or off-highway vehicle (OHV) designated routes. Sierra Buttes beckons from nearly every vista. This strenuous hike is worth every step.

The paved Packer Lake Road is also county Road #S621 and Forest Service Road #93.
