Middle Yuba River Area:

Middle Yuba River is a working river.

Mining operations around Alleghany and Forest City are still active and three dams provide irrigation water and power to nearby and Central Valley residents.

The scenic backcountry drive on the Henness Pass Road follows the river basin for much of its length. Jackson Meadows and Milton Reservoirs are favorite destinations for campers and anglers.

Two stretches of the river are considered good runs but access is poor and shuttles long. From Alleghany the Plumbago Road is a 4WD access to the rugged canyon for adventerous floaters. The Our House Dam Road drops into the put-in for a lower run that is best after high snowmelt or big rain storms.
