Long Lake Trailhead, Lakes Basin Campground, & Elwell Lodge:

Many campers would consider this upscale camping. The views from your campsite aren’t as dramatic, but the hiking, equestrian and fishing opportunities place the Lakes Basin Campground in an ideal location.

Long Lake Trailhead is the doorway to several great hikes into the nearby backcountry. Long Lake itself is one of my absolute favorites for what a high-country lake experience should be. The loop possibilities can be a long day’s hike but you’ll be back in camp in time for a warming fire and an appetizer before you open that can of gourmet chili.

Elwell Lodge is also an old timer. Families have their favorite cabins and many return every summer.
