Plumas Eureka SHP Jamison Mine Trailhead:

Visit the museum first and discover a little of the history. If you get a chance take a docent led tour of the Jamison Mine buildings.

Then as you hike up Jamison Creek and view any or all four lakes in the basin, pause to remember that these lakes are there, in part, because of the need for water to serve the mine. Scramble around and check out the old rock dams still in place – especially Rock Lake. Miners were tough and worked hard for each ounce of gold.

You’ll recognize the trade-offs to the stream environment, but the pause to absorb the history and present setting will give you good excuse for stopping: contemplation, not the only the need to recover from the steady climb. But take a fishing pole – if you’re inclined – the extra weight will be worth it. Fish or no fish that day, the fishing is always good.

The road into the trailhead is dirt and somewhat rough, but easily handled with sedans
