Along the entire length of this unrestrained river there are only four roads that drop into the North Fork of the American River canyon and make it back out again on the other side.
Three of them – and the better three at that – drop south off of I-80 into the canyon lands. Quickly drop, rapidly climb out, and there’s few barriers off the steep sides of the narrow roads to restrict your view. These aren’t roads for the faint of heart.
Weimar might not cause you to want to stop unless you need to purchase some necessities. Colfax is not only worth a stop, it is worth the trip. The little community has character, great dining, fun drinking establishments, and most of the modern amenities any family or single could want.
