I-80, Yuba Gap exit:

Lake Valley Reservoir is a pleasant spring and early summer visit before the reservoir is drawn down to an oversized mud hole. Fishing is often good. Paddling the length of the lake is very rewarding if you go early in the season and pick a day that’s not windy.

Roads and a short, moderately easy trail lead to the backdoor entrance to Salmon Lake and even Loch Leven Lakes. Long drive, short hike, and your vehicle does the climbing for you.
