I-80, Big Bend or Rainbow/Big Bend Exits:

One of the best preserved, remnant segments of the California Emigrant Trail can be seen adjacent to the Big Bend Visitors’ Center operated by the Tahoe National Forest. In a few minutes you will be able to walk by history now over 150 years old. This is not history in a glass display case, but in the same wild location that the early pioneers faced.

The trailhead for Lock Leven Lakes Trail begins at the same parking area for viewing the historic Gold Rush trail. Here the rush is still on. It is one of the two most favorite trails on the Tahoe National Forest.

The Tahoe National Forest Big Bend Visitor Center operates summers as a small museum and visitor center and offers guided tours to the nearby pioneer trail. Call: (530) 426-3609.
