Hell Hole Reservoir Trailhead:

Hell Hole was the likely sentiment when workers constructed the reservoir dam in the near solid granite rock of this awesomely rugged country. For the rest of us, this is remote camping and boating at its heavenly best.

The hiking into Granite Chief Wilderness from this direction might more aptly match the hellish name – perfect if you’re looking for solitude and a true wilderness experience. Once you start hiking around the lake, you’ll quickly leave thoughts of the long drive to the reservoir behind.

For camping, boating, and fishing details see Hell Hole Reservoir.
