Several of the dozen plus ski resorts in the Central Sierra Nevada offer “alpine” Snowboarding or “freeride” opportunities on the downhill runs used by the skiers. Extreme Snowboarding on the demanding slopes within public National Forest lands is practiced in several areas by the most athletic and expert snowboarders. The northern slopes on the backside of Castle Peak is a favorite location.
